INTERSECTION CONCEPT

The Charleston County project team has received feedback from residents on the current concept for the Highway 41 and Highway 17 intersection as well as the alternatives being evaluated for the widening of Highway 41. Current and future traffic congestion in this corridor, coupled with the project’s potential impacts to the East Cooper community and the natural environment, is a complex issue and we are taking another look at the project to make sure we have investigated all possible alternatives.

To address the roadway capacity deficiency and improve safety at the intersection of Highway 41 and Highway 17, 12 intersection designs were evaluated. The proposed intersection design concept was the only design that optimized traffic operations to solve the congestion issue within this area.

The project team will hold a virtual public meeting in 2020 to present the proposed alternative along with the proposed intersection design concept, environmental and community studies, and to take public comment.
